About Us

Rachael Hoch was born in Ohio, where she initially pursued a degree in journalism. However, after realizing that the field wasn't the right fit for her, she made a bold move at the age of 20 to relocate to Atlanta, Georgia. There, she enrolled at the Paul Mitchell School of Cosmetology, completing her studies in just 15 months while simultaneously working in salons and at makeup counters.

Rachael’s passion for beauty quickly paid off. Shortly after graduating, she was hired as a freelance hair and makeup artist at CNN, marking the beginning of a vibrant career in the beauty industry. In addition to her work at CNN, she honed her skills as an assistant in various salons and at MAC Cosmetics, steadily building her reputation.

Her talent and dedication led her to become the lead stylist for NBA TV, and she also collaborated with the Weather Channel, contributing her expertise to high-profile projects. During her time in the industry, Rachael joined the union and worked on several film sets, embracing the role of a “celebrity makeup artist.”

In 2008, Rachael experienced a transformative moment while working on a wedding with a colleague. Witnessing the joy and confidence that bridal makeup brought to women inspired her to shift her focus towards bridal artistry. That evening, she shared with her father her newfound passion for helping brides feel beautiful and empowered on their special day and began forming a plan to offer her own bridal services as an on location artist/stylist.

In 2017, 9 years into her career as a professional Hair and Makeup artist for film and television, and 500+ weddings into her bridal business, she and her now husband decided that a change of lifestyle was in order.  They left Atlanta and headed West to the Arkansas valley that had been calling them in for years when they traveled and road tripped for a reprieve from city life.  Rachael's husband grew up spending time with his extended family where they lived in Buena Vista, so landing just down the road in Salida was an easy adjustment for him.  Rachael had found the mountains and the slower speed of life in the valley appealing from her first visit and itched to return more permanently as soon as possible.  She finally did, and brought FaceofMakeup along with her in hopes to offer her services in a place she knew little about.  Even with Covid, Rachael and her small team of artists in Salida Colorado and Buena Vista Colorado have managed to complete over 400 weddings so far, so it is working.
